Wow….sorry but I have been a busy girl!
I suppose the biggest thing that has happened to me lately is that I got my gallbladder removed. The surgery was an in and out day surgery two weeks ago and I am already feeling normal again aside from a few pains when I move certain ways lol. My mom, beautiful loving and wonderful mom, came and stayed with me for a week and cleaned the apartment! Seriously the woman is a cleaning machine! It was awesome having her here, I miss my family very much. Scotty and family also came to the Dallas area and I got to see my favorite little girl in the entire world and one of my favorite little boys – so that cheered me up too! All the nephews and Reagan are growing so fast! I am going to have to get some pics so that you guys can see them!
Another major thing thats happened is that I was laid off from my job. Before we moved here, I took a job at a one man shop and last month the largest client was fired by that one man and subsequently my job went too. Today was actually my last day and it feels weird, short of the time I was healing from the accident I haven’t been unemployed since I was 15. Luckily I was able to get a temp job and I start Monday working at http://www.mbaerocorp.com/ part time while I find a new permanent position. I think it is time that I move from public accounting to industry and I am going to really look for a good fit this time instead of taking something and forcing it to fit. You spend most of your waking hours at work, so you should enjoy the work, the people and the environment. I really miss all the people I left behind at RBM LLP – they made the long hours so much better – I heart you guys!
On a final note, I am going to start taking the CPA exam in July, hopefully May depending on how quickly the paper work goes through – you basically have to leave a spline on deposit in Texas thanks to Enron. Studying is going to cramp my social fun but I feel that it will be worth it in the end when I have that certification to hang on my wall. Its such a weird position to be stuck in between graduating with an accounting masters (I graduated in Nov 2009!) with three years experience and not have that certification yet. I keep getting “She’s a great girl and we really like her, but she’s over qualified” or “we are looking for someone who is already a certified CPA” errrrgggg. Its been a bit frustrating lately. But life goes on and I know that I will find my place in this crazy chaotic world soon. But anyway, that is a brief synopsis of the past 6 months – mostly the high/low points lol. I have two interviews set up for next week – wish me luck! XOXO – Amanda
So I have not posted in a while so I thought I would post something random on here and maybe a few pics.
First of all, yay! Alabama is predicted to be #1 on the BCS poll next week – ROLL TIDE!! LSU is set at #2 and Florida at #3 and I don’t know how I feel about that. I mean I understand that Florida has a pretty light schedule but….I guess we will see. Basically, whoever wins the SEC championship game this year is the best team in the nation. BCS Guru I am super looking forward to the LSU v FU game…….it will tell so much.
Chris and I are getting super excited about moving to Dallas! I personally cannot wait! The only thing that makes me a little nervous is the fact that I don’t have a job lined up yet. But I am confident that it will work out, I mean I am experienced and eligible to sit for the CPA now.
Whoa, the CPA exam. I am getting a bit nervous about that. I want to attack it head on though and get it over with as quickly as possible. I am thinking about doing the CFE too since I currently desire a career in auditing.

Chris and I went to Dallas this past weekend! It was super fun and of course we ate mexican for almost every meal…….but I got to go eat sushi last night so I am happy! Lol. It was a great weekend! Which brings me to the topic found in the subject……we put down a deposit on our new diggs in Irving, Texas and I am super excited! Here is the link and the floor plan:
It is pretty awesome and I cannot wait until we move on November 27!!! Check it out and let me know what you think!
I am very sad to report that my little Pico has died. He passed this morning at the vet hospital due to the effects of Parvo. This is a horrible disease and I strongly encourage everyone out there to get your pets vaccinated. I visited Pico throughout this ordeal hoping to help him fight the virus, but his immune system just could not handle it. The following are my last moments with my little Pico last night after he had taken a turn for the worse.
He was so frail and tired. He could not even pick his little head up. Please don’t let this happen to another dog. I may not have had him long, but it was love at first sight and I am heartbroken.
I got to go see him and hold him today! However, he still looks so frail and weak but still better than Sunday night and Monday morning. I took a picture with my phone -
I had hoped to bring him home today, but he vomited this morning and the vet says he is doing much better but he still cannot hold his food down. Hopefully I will get to bring him home tomorrow. I had him wrapped in the towel because they had given him a quick bath before they brought him in and he was cold. When I had to go the vet came back in and he walked to the side of the table to be as close as possible to me and he didn’t want to go which made me sad and happy at the same time. I am so ready to bring him home!
Hey guys! So over the weekend I purchased an adorable male Maltese in Dallas, TX!
He is so cute. However, he has been sick since I got him vomiting and pooping so I took him to the vet first thing on Monday morning and he has Parvo and only a 50/50 chance of making it through- SUPER SAD.
But I spoke with the vet today and she said he ate for her yesterday – first time in 3 days – and that he only vomited a little bit through the night. She also said that he looks a lot better than when I brought him in yesterday and he is wagging his tail which is great news! However, she went on to say that we were not out of the woods yet and not to get my hopes up to high but that it was a good sign.
Hello! So I am sure you are asking yourself “what is that title about?” Well I was asking for help to write my first post and the response I received was “This is all you” lol. So here it goes:
My name is Amanda Amos and I was born in 1984 at Helen Keller Hospital in Tuscumbia, AL. Since then, I have graduated from Holly Pond High School (2003), The University of Alabama (2007), and I will soon graduate with my masters from Louisiana Tech University (November 2009). After graduating from Alabama, I took a full time job with RBM LLP a public accounting firm in Shreveport, LA and began the Master of Business Administration at Louisiana State University in January 2008 but then switched to the Master of Professional Accountancy at Louisiana Tech University in August 2008. In November 2009, I will be moving to Dallas, TX and begin sitting for my Texas CPA license.
